Event Description :

You are invited into this stunning house, one of the best examples of Arts and Crafts architecture and interiors in the world, to relax, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the magnificent Lakeland views.

Spend as long as you like enjoying the house and leave time to treat yourself in the Tea Room and to browse the Contemporary Craft Shop.

Parking is free - so there is no need to rush.

The House

When the architect MH Baillie Scott designed a holiday home overlooking Windermere for his client Sir Edward and Lady Holt he created Blackwell, a masterpiece of twentieth-century design and one of the most enchanting historic houses in the Lake District. The rooms contain original features and furniture and objects by many of the leading Arts and Crafts designers and studios - metalwork by WAS Benson, ceramics by de Morgan, Ruskin Pottery and furniture by Stanley Webb Davies and Baillie Scott himself.

Tea Room

Freshly baked scones and cakes are available throughout the day to enjoy with our locally roasted coffee and speciality teas. Blackwell’s chef uses fresh locally sourced ingredients to create a unique and flavourful lunch menu which brings visitors back again and again.

The View

On warmer days you can enjoy your meal outside on the terraces and marvel at the stunning Lakeland views.

Contemporary Craft Shop

We work with a wide array of creative talent - from established caftmakers to young designers at the start of their career. The shop includes studio pottery by William Plumptre, glass by Gillies Jones, jewellery, scarfs, leather bags and woodwork, all beautifully and individually made.
Purchasing from the shop supports us and the makers.
